I am so grateful for, and proud of, everyone who came out to vote! While I am excited, this election isn’t about me – it’s about all of YOU!
We talked about many issues and ideas over the last couple of months; there is much to do. Below are some of the things I will be focused on through the end of the year. Please join me, ask questions, and let me know your thoughts!
- Urging the Mayor to pause the vote on Proctor’s – I will be at the Council meeting this evening, Nov 6th, to encourage the Mayor and current council to pause the vote. The entire new Council that Troy elected has voiced concerns about a lack of details, transparency in the process, and finances that don’t add up. The resolution that was passed already has a clause to end the process, but there will be a fee for Troy. The cost is much lower than what Troy is being proposed to pay over the next 30 years, but if we pause the vote at this step, we may be able to avoid increasing that fee.
- Food Drive for Oakwood Community Center’s Food Pantry – In partnership with 518 Craft, we will be doing a food drive from Sunday, Nov 9th, through Sunday, December 7th. There are too many residents who are experiencing food insecurity, even before the issues with SNAP benefits. Let’s do what we can to help! There will be a box at the bar to drop off dry goods, non-perishables of any kind, toiletries, and personal hygiene products. There will also be a QR code to donate money directly to the pantry.
- Planning monthly Office Hours—I want to be sure I am available to all of you! I am available via phone and email, but face-to-face is essential. The plan is to choose a location in District 2 for me to set up shop for 1-2 hours a month, where you can drop in to chat. It will likely rotate between weekend mornings and weekday evenings for timing. Let me know if you have ideas for locations!
- Continuing Community partnerships – The biggest complaint neighbors have voiced concerns about is speeding, traffic, and accidents in the district. I will be working with the city and organizations like Capital Streets to plan improvements. Some of the improvements are low-hanging fruit, like re-programming some lights or making stop signs more visible. Some take more planning, like reducing the city speed limit to 25.
- A Basketball Program – There are so many young people who use the parks in District 2, from under the Hoosick St. Bridge to Geneva-Pompey to Knickerbocker Park. It is fantastic that these parks exist, but I see a lot of the balls in use are older, often go flat, etc. I am working on getting new balls to be distributed so they can actually play!
I am so excited to work with you all! Please stay tuned here or sign up for the newsletter to get regular updates.
